ForeFlight – IFR Workshop

ForeFlight for Instrument Students and Pilots’ Workshop

Instrument flying demands that we address multiple demands in a priority manner. General Aviation Pilots typically fly in a single pilot cockpit environment that keeps them juggling many tasks to keep the aircraft upright and arrive safely at the destination.

Instrument pilots need to know how to use all the tools available to reduce the instrument planning and flying workload. ForeFlight is excellent workload reductions tool.  This Electronic Flight Bag Application for Apple iPad and iPhones provides a comprehensive approach to Route Planning, weather briefing, flight plan filing and viewing current charts plus procedures.

Are you interested in expanding your understanding of and how to use ForeFlight? There are videos that explain the how to use many ForeFlight aspects. Have you ever had difficulty deciding what video you need to watch to increase your knowledge? How many times do you rewind a video to try and understand a new concept?

Ortega Aviation’s 2 day ForeFlight workshop with a 4 hour period each day gives you a chance to have an experienced  ForeFlight Instructor explain the fundamentals and then show you how to execute increasingly more complex IFR scenarios where you can hit the “stop button” at any time to ask the instructor clarifying questions.

Dual instruction is how we learn to fly an airplane. How about the concept of aircraft dual to gain the most information and confidence and improve your ability to utilize all the ForeFlight capabilities in the cockpit? This workshop utilizes similar concepts that you experience during a flight lesson, the instructor demonstrates and then you do while to instructor oversees your activity. Graphic presentations combined with the instructor’s own iPad actions displayed on large classroom screens for you to see and follow along on your iPad help you understand more clearly these concepts.

You will need to bring more than paper and pencil to this workshop. Other materials that the workshop participants need are an iPad (recommended) or iPhone with one of the three current ForeFlight versions installed and aircraft weight and balance data for your aircraft or one that you rent or use.

Any skill starts with understanding the basic fundamentals. The ForeFlight application consist of 8 unique pages. Each of these pages has multiple functions providing you with a wealth of data and facts to support your flight planning, decisions and execution. Step one is to know on what page is the information you need at the present moment. Some information may be presented on more than one page. Which one will you use? Once you begin to understand these fundamentals, with practice you will gain confidence in these skills in an interactive lab environment on your iPad.
